Who said this?

“Any purely human institution run by such a group of knaves, fools, and cutthroats wouldn’t have lasted a fortnight.”
Hilaire Belloc

I have been away from this blog for a good long time. Mostly, I was just upset about the verdict from Rome on the case of the Legionaries of Christ. I thought his judgement was far too lenient considering the number of lives and families that have been ruined due to the Legion's tactics. I had hoped that the Legion Apostolic schools would be shut down, recruiting suspended and the Legion leadership removed. Not too long after my last post I had a nice long talk with Pete Vere and he gave me reason to hope, pointing to the case of les fils de Marie, a Quebec group that was eventually shut down by Rome. He pointed out that it took about ten years once the Holy Father stepped in for them to essentially cease functioning. Today I got another boost from Xavier Leger, blog master over at ex LC blogspot. He sent me an e-mail, part of which I post below, pointing out that there is still hope after all that justice may be served. I guess the main point I am taking from this is that I ought to be more patient. Perhaps I am too idealogical, hoping that justice would be metted out swifty, firmly and fairly. It seems to me that the faithful can no longer, nor should we have ever, relied upon church heirarchy to achieve justice for us. It seems to me that this may have to be pursued in the civil courts. Another option I thought of was child social services in the state of New Hampshire. Has any former apostolic ever contacted this service from the state to let them know what transpires under the guise of education? Perhaps not!

As promised Xavier Leger:

You're disappointed because you hoped that the visit would have lead to the closure of the Apostolic Schools. To tell you the truth, I had the same reaction as you. Worse, I hoped that the Vatican would take an exemplary measure and would require the radical dissolution of the congregation. Knowing the compulsive dispositions of some legionaries to chat up and to manipulate the Vatican authorities in their interest, we may be tempted to think that the Church "has been fooled, once again."

However, however... there may be another reason behind it. It is not just a question of saving great interests and capitals. But to avoid a human tragedy. You know, basically, that the Legionnaires are extremely vulnerable, and especially teenagers.

Their system of training, their religious discipline, and their apostolic methodology have made them unable to live normally in the world, as you might have noticed it by yourself.

They are not "immune" because they are living for a long time in a perfect world, a world where one is never confronted with evil. Also, on this simple point of view, a radical dissolution would have been very complicated.

But that's not all: if the Pope had dissolved the congregation, his decision would have been seen as a stab inconsistent with their representation of their vocation. All these apostolics and pre-candidates do not work hard, for many years, serving the Church and the Pope? Do not they have left anything behind them? Have they not sacrificed their youth? The human drama that would follow would surely have led many of them, in any case the most fragile, to madness, depression and even suicide.

But do not worry. The system will not survive very long. The wreck began, water entered the ship and now, despite the desperate efforts of crew members to save the furniture, I do not think the Legion will survive. In the whole history of the church, it never happened that a congregation has been founded by a monster lacking in any religious sentiment.

I believe that the Apostolic Visitation, despite the shortcomings that we have witnessed, and few attempts of some legionaries to fix things, allowed the Holy Father to have a real idea of cultish behavio within the congregation. In the midst of polite phrases and sentences of consolation, the statement points out the serious shortcomings of the Legion and condemn without appeal, the behavior of Father Maciel.

I think the result will be easier than you might imagine: the delegate sent by the Vatican will have the mission to let the congregation “slowly die by itself”. I guess the first steps will be to immediately stop "the vocational recruitment" and the apostolate of training the trainers of seminaries. I also believe that the Legion of Christ will not welcome anymore the training session for the new bishops, and that the Maria Mater Ecclesiae will be assigned to another congregation. (If I am wrong, so, we are in great great trouble...)

In a second step, the delegate will change all the things that contribute to the “feeling guilty” of members: instructors will have the correct speech as "You have a special mission", "God has thought from His eternity to ...", "If you leave, you will betray your calling ...". The religious will have more holidays, and more time with his family. He will also have more opportunities to be informed. He will have more time to sleep, more personal intimacy, more freedom in everyday life. Some acts of piety will become optional. The books of MM will be burned up, the practical exams also. Gradually, they will re-discover - or discover - their freedom ... and not having the pressure of guilt upon their shoulders, they will leave one by one the Legion.

And that's how I think that the prophecy of John Paul II will be fulfilled : "Veranno tempi duri per i legionari se vogliono essere fedeli a la sua vocazione” (hard times are coming for the legionaries if they want be faithful to their vocation). A prophecy which is not, in my opinion, a moral judgments, but a simple observation.

With those few words, I wish you a good continuation in life.

Let us be united in prayer to God who is, above all, a GOOD FATHER.

Heaven's Vengeance

Sins that cry to Heaven for Vengeance:

1) Willful murder,

3)Oppression of the poor, and

4)Defrauding the labourer of his wage.

These are my final thoughts on the Legion of Christ.

It was with great disappointment today that I read of the verdict of his Holiness, Pope Benedict, on the matter concerning the Legion of Christ. I acknowledge that the Pope is infallible in matters of faith and morals. He is, however, wrong in his approach to the Legion. I am disappointed in his lack of clear leadership, particularly in regard to the apostolic schools, of which I am a victim. I had hoped that he would, at the very least, shut them down. It seems that they will live on, to recruit boys for some time to come.
There is no need for apostolic schools. Few, if any boys go from the schools onto the priesthood. Boys should be at home with their parents where they will learn how to be men from their fathers, not some brother only a few years their senior. As a product of the apostolic school in New Hampshire I can say with certainty that I never learned the art of being a man in today’s society. At twenty-seven years of age I am still conflicted in just what that entails. Had the Legion not stolen me from my parents at the tender age of twelve, through manipulation and deceit, I would have learned how to be a man from my father, God love him.
I left the Legion at seventeen years of age. I was deposited at the Via train station, in Cornwall, Ontario, with one change of clothes and two-hundred dollars in my pocket. I had no knowledge of the world, only fear. I didn’t know how to open a bank account, apply for a job or go to school. I had no knowledge of the world and how it works. As a result I learned everything I initially knew about sex from internet pornography, shortly after I left the Legion. This is the greatest travesty of the Legion’s formation of youngsters, they do nothing, NOTHING, to prepare them for life outside of being a member of the Legion, no exceptions. Remember, as a Legionary, all I ever read were the works of Nuestro Padre. He didn’t exactly groom boys for life as a Catholic layman, as we have all come to learn. I made a living in dead end jobs for nearly three years when I was finally accepted into the army. The war in Afghanistan came for me not long after that. Out of the frying pan and into the fire, as they say.
The only reason I continue to go to mass is for the simple fact that I still believe that Jesus is present in the sacrament of the altar. Despite my shitty experiences with the church and her manipulator, the Legion of Christ (spit) I know that it takes a priest to bring Christ to us, under the appearance of the bread and wine. My confusion now, is what I must do to attain salvation for me and mine. I am done with “congregations”, and other groups that claim loyalty to the church. I am done with a church that refuses to see just what these groups are and what they are doing to innocent young people and their families. I am fed up with Bishops who allowed the Legion into their diocese’s in order to poach the young and vibrant into their cess pools. Give me the sacraments! Give me the traditions of the church! Give me the sacramentals handed down to us from the popes! Everyone else that may claim to have a charism should get the fuck away from me and mine, lest I become truly angry ...

ArchBishop Thomas Collins address to the faithful

The following is a link to the address of ArchBishop Thomas Collins to the faithful of Toronto in regards to the abuse crisis that has recently garnered so much media attention and hatred.

Here is a short excerpt:

“People expect that one who is consecrated with the holy oil of Chrism, will act in an
exemplary manner, and never betray the trust which people know they should be able to
place in a Catholic priest. And yet to our shame some have used the awesome gift of the
holy priesthood for base personal gratification, betraying the innocent and devastating their
lives. When that happens, our first concern must be for those innocent young people who
have been abused, to help them overcome their suffering, and to resolve to take whatever
steps are needed to be as sure as is possible that this does not happen again. We have all
had to learn through failures and mistakes and that is especially true of bishops, who have
sometimes failed in their responsibility to act effectively.”
The address is also posted on youtube:

Support the Holy Father

Here's a cool website I found over at Lair of the Catholic Caveman! There's a link at the top of my blog.

Catholic mommy of 9

Where generosity was expected they got it. I was told to never say no when a superior or director asked something from me. To do so was a lack of generosity. I was told to favor the movement apostolate………….the formation in the movement was more authentically Catholic. I did not pick up a book, take a class, or make any decisions even those that should be made with my husband without the approval of my Spiritual Director or Team Leader. I spent my time recruiting and plotting how to build our apostolate. Want me here……….yes, I’ll go. Hours of formation activities all meant to integrate me deeper and deeper. I read every one of the founder’s letters over and over. I studied them and assimilated them………….after all I am a Co-Founder it is my job to carry on the Charisim exactly as he passed. I spent years questioning nothing yet my heart questioned everything………………………..I said nothing. Even though I knew the main purpose for every apostolate was to either financially support the Legion and Regnum Christi or to keep the membership and vocations flowing. The Apostolate dealing with children were used to recruit for the apostolic schools or eventually into adult RC members. Familia existed to bring Vocations to RC. I knew these things but I had swallowed the Blue Pill.

The constant stream of formation eventually led to squashing my ability to hear the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Many times things did not make sense……………I was supposed to be helping others build their families, but I was always asking them to leave them. I had been leaving mine sometimes 5 nights a week to build the Kingdom of Christ. My now 5 children were very small they needed their mommy at home, but Christ needed me to build His Kingdom right? I remember the praises given to Mothers who sacrificed their families this way. One Legionary told a story of a couple who were outside the house 6 nights a week building the movement and how he had sat with their children and explained to them how wonderful their parents were for doing Christ’s will. Serving other……………………….even at the expense of your own families. No it did not make sense. Some of the stories told about the founder seemed inconsistent. The Pope loved us right? It cost so much money to do everything…………….why? We had formators conventions to attend, evenings of reflections to attend, weekly encounters, Spiritual Direction, Team Dialog, Tridiums, Youth and Family Encounters, Integration Days, Days of Formation, and the list goes on. I left my family at the drop of the hat. Oh they had meals in the fridge, clean clothes, and childcare was arranged………but Mom was nowhere to be found. Then there were the apostolate. I held many hats at one time. I was climbing right up the formator ladder. No I did not ask any questions. All of this fed my ego …………………I swallowed the Blue Pill.

Read more here at :

Notice how the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi drove a wedge between her and her husband? Yeah ... the will of God ... ignore your stupid husband whom God chose for you from all eternity ... we are RC, the kingdom is us! ... Time is Kingdom ... give us your children to raise! (insert evil laugh here, muhahaha!)

Towards the end of March I wrote a post about my brother, a seminarian at the Legionary seminary in the United States. I am pleased to say that my brother has announced his departure from the Legion of Christ!
I thank Our Lord, from the bottom of my small heart, for my brother's deliverance. I also thank all the folks who frequent this blog and the other Legion watching blogs for all their prayers for my brother. I told Pete Vere about my brother in the past, he said that it would be up to men like my brother to pick up the pieces of the Legion when the recomendations were made from the apostolic visitation. I guess my brother decided that it wouldn't be worth his time. I would like to ask you all for continued prayers for my brother. He is determined to join another seminary and will need the guidance of the Holy Spirit in determining which seminary would be a good fit for him.
Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto,
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

New Host here at Bonum, Verum, Pulchrum ... welcome Mortalitor!

I am an ex-legionary; and could go into great detail about my experiences with the Legion, Fr. MM, his writings, and the Legion as a whole. Let it suffice to say I am deeply sadden and disturbed by all events which I have just recently begun to learn about. I have also been reading many different people’s opinions (all of are very heated by emotion) about what should be done with the legion after the visitation. As a guest writer in his blog I want to give my opinion as to what should be done with the legion and why, in the most objective way possible.
First off; Fr. Marcial Marciel, has been totally disgraced, and removing all vestiges of him from the order seems appropriate. However there are those who say the legion should keep some of his writings, ‘why throw the baby with the bath water’. Initially I would agree with that, however looking more deeply into it after a bit of research, it seems that Fr. MM might have plagiarised some of his writings. As well the main reason I think that his writing should be gotten rid of, is the blatant hypocrisy that comes out his work which gives it all a sick new meaning and makes me sick to my stomach.
Now if we remove all vestiges of Fr. MM, his works and writings, then you in essence have removed the spirituality of the Legion, that which makes the Legion the Legion, the identity which separates it from all the other orders and the diocese. This is true because the legion only uses its founder’s writings and the bible as their only source for spirituality. The legion would lose its identity and would have to find a new one. This finding of a new spiritual identity, as an order could be an exciting and wonderful experience, one that I wouldn’t mind being a part of. However, who is to lead this new spiritual journey? Certainly not the Legion’s current leadership.
The upper echelon of the Legion has been covering for Fr. MM and many others in the order who have committed scandalous actions and some who continue to commit scandalous action while remaining unmolested by law. This is truly the most horrifying thing I have ever heard about the Legion, that priests, an ‘Alter Christus’ would cover up for pedophiles, all for the good of the Legion. The upper echelon of the legion needs to be removed from the order to where it can no longer harm her, and I don’t just mean demotion, I mean out of the order and to wherever the Church deems it necessary to place them. They need to be removed because it is clear that are will to do whatever it takes to protect “THEIR” order, no matter if innocents are harmed in the process.
This leaves the renewal of the order up to the young priests and brothers who are left with the pieces. This has to be a daunting task for those who have been trained to obey all orders and to never question their superiors, for this is part of Fr. MM’s spirituality. The hardest part for them, those fathers and brothers left to pick up the pieces, is that they are all being kept in the dark, by their current leadership, as to what is really going on, so much so that I would hate to imagine their shock if the Legion were to be disbanded. If that had of happened while I was a novice, I think I would have felt betrayed by the Church. So now the question is whether the Legion is capable of finding a new identity. That is a question I don’t feel qualified to answer, and it is something that the Apostolic Visitation will have to decide. In the mean time lets us all pray for the fathers, brothers and lay people who are caught in the middle of this whole mess

The Legion's own Easter revolution

Pete Vere says it best, so here goes:

In essence, current LC/RC leadership is facing its own Easter Revolution. What's destroying the movement is not Maciel's acts of molestation, but the methodology that allowed him to get away with it for so many years. A methodology taken to heart by his closest underlings, who now find themselves out-of-touch with the horror felt by average Catholics. A methodology that refuses to acknowledge its shortcomings, or blames them on external enemies. A methodology that preaches serenity and tries to distract its members with talk of "good fruits" when real victims are suffering. A methodology that blinded the leadership when a rank-and-file Legionary prophesied the movement's downfall one year ago. Here at : as always I refer folks to Pete Vere's blog, Catholic Light (not Catholic lite) which can be found by clicking this link:

Is not full knowledge a requisite for full and free consent?

The LC would almost certainly prefer to be left alone to work out its own solutions. The visitation is an embarassment and an undesired intromission into its private laboratory where truth and lies can be arbitrarily fabricated or erased through the alchemy of spin and secrecy.

But the LC is wretchedly incapable of curing itself.

Case in point: how can the LC continue at this present moment to ordain deacons and priests? How can it promote to religious profession the young novices that obliviously inch toward their vows? How can the Legion now so aggressively recruit new candidates to fill its vaunted houses of formation?

Is not full knowledge a requisite for full and free consent? Could anyone validly commit their lives to serve as priest and religious in an institution about which they really know quite little because the truth has been systematically obfuscated and discarded?

Shouldn’t the LC at least wait until the visitation publishes its results – and we should all pray for an independent publication, free from LC filters and delays, if we hope to ever know the real findings and results – before herding more idealistic young men into its ranks?

The retort that present generations are less affected by the scandalous life and legacy of Fr. Maciel and so should progress unfettered by useless hindrances like ‘truth’ and ‘full disclosure’ is disingenuous at best. Every new candidate to the LC should know up front that he is entering the only existing religious order in the Catholic Church whose Founder was a sexual predator and a pathological liar who lived a double life during the sixty whatever years of the foundation. The parents of every new recruit should be carefully informed that their son or daughter is about to put their life and conscience in the hands of an institution that has had to disown its Founder because of accusations of sexual abuse (“more than 20, less than 100”), toss out all the writings and teachings that sustain his warped spirituality and now awaits with uncertainty a judgment on its future existence. They should also know that the men presently running the organization that will exercise full and unmitigated authority over their son or daughter were hand-picked by Fr. Maciel and swore personal allegiance to him at the last General Chapter.

Hey, folks, wake up!!! I mean this ain’t the Jesuits, the Dominicans or the Salesians you’re joining… we’re the LC!!!

My brother, a Legionary of Christ

Well it has been a busy week here in Ontario. It was just one short week ago that we hosted my brother, a Legionary of Christ. As hard as I have been on the Legion in the past, I must say that my brother is the type of priest that the church needs. He was a pleasure to have around, great ... and patient ... with my children, committed to his prayer life and enthusiastic about his role as a doctor of souls! When we brought him to mass at the local parish all the parishioners were impressed by his priestly identity (he wore the roman collar) and by his young age. My wife and I both enjoyed his company and are saddened that we won’t see him for a very long time. Unless, of course, the Holy Father sees fit, to disband the Legion of Christ.
My brother is committed to his vocation in the Legion. While the apostolic visitation was still underway he committed himself to an hour of Eucharistic adoration every day to pray for a good outcome to the visitation. As Pete Vere said, it may be up to men like your brother, to pick up the pieces of the Legion, after the visitation.

Who said this?

I’m here as a Catholic Christian and an American citizen -- in that order. Both of these identities are important. They don’t need to conflict. They are not, however, the same thing. ... No nation, not even the one I love, has a right to my allegiance, or my silence, in matters that belong to God or that undermine the dignity of the human persons He created.

A quote from a ... get ready ... a woman!

With this quote, I hope to dispel any myths about my apparent misogyny. I stand accused of hating women, because I called one, a whore and a concubine. Mea culpa, mea culpa mea maxima culpa!
"All the counseling, programs and money in the world can never come close to replacing the impact that faith and commitment to marriage have on the developing hearts, souls, and minds of our little ones. The Nanny-State is no substitute for a loving mom. Food stamps cannot buy the long-term security of having a loving father. Therapy can’t possibly fill the void in our hearts designed for a loving God who longs to fill us with his peace."

Pic of MM's whore and daughter

Imagine my horror to discover this photo of Marcial Maciel, taken with his concubine and daughter, in a Legionary retreat house in Cotija, Michoacan, Mexico. In this photo are numerous "consecrated" women. It was shot in 2005, as you can see by the date at the bottom of the photo, one year into the vatican investiagtion and a year before he was formally asked to retire from active ministry.

Even though we have never seen them together before, we now meet Maciel and his supposed daughter. Also there is the darker woman, with black hair, dressed in blue and at the extreme right of the photo. According to my source, this is none other than Norma Banos, the woman who Maciel is said to have met in the 70s in Acapulco - where she lived and worked as a waitress 0, and with whom the founder of the Legion of Chirst conceived Norma Hilda. Uffff.

Canada: the next major power?

Could Canada be the next major power? Seems unlikely, then again our American friends seem to be passing the torch on this one, it may be up to us to make up the difference. Andrew Coyne puts it better than I ever could, here;
But it wasn’t so long ago that this was a country that feared free trade; that apologized to separatists for its existence; that freeloaded off others for its defence; that could not balance its budget or conquer inflation because, after all, it was just too hard. Afraid, ashamed, we sought solace in our own insignificance. At least we were nicer than other nations.

Even before the Olympics, there had been a great deal of gnashing of teeth over Canada’s supposed changing image abroad. People in other countries don’t like us as much as they used to, the critics wailed. But to the extent that’s even remotely true, we should understand why: they preferred us as doormats. Our “popularity” was strictly to do with our ineffectualness. We didn’t get in anyone’s way. We weren’t a threat. We were the milquetoast of the town.

But that never was the real Canada. The country that aimed for the middle, that dared to be modest, that coughed before it entered the room: that was a comparatively recent invention. Go back to the first half of the last century, before the nationalists started remaking us in their own image, and you see a different Canada: the Canada of Laurier and Leacock, when it was not just a goal, but an assumption, that this country, two steps out of the woods though it was, would be the next great power. By the end of the 20th century, the “century of Canada,” we would have 100 million people. World leaders? Top of the medals? Of course. This is what we were supposed to be.

Health care ideas

Here's a link to the complete article. I won't tell you who it is by or you may not want to read it.
A small excerpt follows.
President Obama says we need national health care because Natoma Canfield of Ohio had to drop her insurance when she couldn’t afford the $6,700 premiums, and now she’s got cancer.

Much as I admire Obama’s use of terminally ill human beings as political props, let me point out here that perhaps Natoma could have afforded insurance had she not been required by Ohio’s state insurance mandates to purchase a plan that covers infertility treatments and unlimited OB/GYN visits, among other things.

It sounds like Natoma could have used a plan that covered only the basics—you know, things like cancer.

Welcome to Canada

St. Joseph, Patron of Canada, Pray for us!

Prayer to Saint Joseph

O Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires.

O Saint Joseph, assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your heavenly power I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

O Saint Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me, and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath Saint Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen.
Reportedly this prayer was found in the fiftieth year of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In 1505 it was sent from the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle.

Cult "ish"?

Here is an article by Pete Vere, a Canadian canon lawyer on some possible warning signs of a cult, Here are a few excerpts which I found especially intriguing, especially in light of my recent postings on the Legion of Christ.

- The leadership induces feeling of guilt in members to control them
One’s vocation within the Church should be freely chosen. Similarly, obedience is something a superior should inspire among those under his or her charge. While it sometimes happens that a superior must impose his or her will upon a particular member, obedience should never be coerced through illicit or improper means. Additionally, if a superior must constantly impose his will upon the majority of the membership through coercive means, then this proves problematical to the long-term health of the specific association or religious group.

- The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members
Of course every new association, if it wishes to grow, will seek to increase its membership. Such growth, however, should come because potential members identify with the mission or apostolate of the association. Additionally, members should only join after a reasonable period of discernment. Thus, any association whose main focus is to bring in new members, to the exclusion of other acts of apostolate or ministry, should be carefully examined.

Fom a grateful mother to her Bishop

I copied this letter from a grateful mother to her bishop, who helped her retrieve her son from a Legionary Apostolic school (minor seminary).

Letter from a Mother to her Bishop

A Testimony of Misplaced Trust and Manipulation

By Mother of Former Legion Apostolic School Student

"Our son also said that many of his friends said they want out but don't know how to get out."

ReGAIN calls on all bishops to end recruitment for the Legion of Christ Apostolic Schools in their dioceses

Dear Bishop,

Again, thank you so much for seeing my husband and I and helping us bring our son home from the Legionaries of Christ Apostolic School. We have been enjoying every moment with our son. He is so precious.

I just wanted you to know that our son has finally starting speaking about life at the school and is now open to the truth about Fr. Maciel. Last night he approached me and asked me to tell him the truth, which I did- and he handled it very well.

During our discussion he mentioned some very disturbing things like the psychological mind control, the guilt games and psychological prison he was in. He told me that he would lay in bed in the morning and say to himself, this is going to be my life for the rest of my life. Hopefully, I'll just wake up in Heaven someday. He said it was beyond despair, that he was in crisis (I didn't know all that until last night).

I had always told him don't worry about the vocation just enjoy yourself, enjoy your friends and get a good education. I thought he was happy and having a good time. Even his spiritual directors would confirm that I was telling our son the right things. However, our son said that what they told him was the opposite, that they would get these talks all the time and that it was all about the vocation (Legionary of course), that they were being called to be Legionary Priests and that souls counted on their fidelity to their vocation. I am just sick to my stomach that my son, for 3 1/2 years was in that prison, the mind games, the control, screening the letters.

I just want this to stop. The more I have my son with me and the more we are all out of the Legion and Regnum Christ, the more I realize that they had turned my son into a zombie (and the rest of our family too). I used to pretend like he was dead in order to cope. My poor daughter has lost the faith, suffered from severe depression, was cutting her wrists and became bulimic and I didn't get the connection. I feel like such an idiot and a horrible mother. The reason why I am writing you is because I think you need to know just how damaging the whole experience has been for our family so that other families can, hopefully, be prevented from making the same mistake we did. Only time will tell the extent of the damage to our son. He seems ok now but I worry. I would love to bring our son in to see you and to tell you for himself just what it was like.

If you are able to meet with us we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you and God bless you,

I was just wondering about extortion. On the blog, Mommy writes, some one has posted a comment that one of Maciel's sons seemed extortion "ish" when he asked the Legion for twenty-six million dollars, on account of being abused by Maciel, sexually, for years. Twenty six million dollars is an astronomical sum of money, unthinkable really. What everyone is wondering is, "is this real, did Maciel really rape his own sons"? This does seem a little fantastical, but this saga just keep getting weirder and weirder, so who knows. It does seem a little weird though, that this young man would just take this money to keep quiet. Is that because he doesn't want to have to testify in court? Or is it because he is an extraordinary liar who feels that he may have gotten in over his head? Are there any thougths out there on this topic?

More thougths on the Legion

I always enjoyed hanging out with my Dad, just one on one. I came from a family of six kids and so any time with my Dad, spent alone, was heaven for me. The summer after I graduated high-school, I had my annual fifteen days off in the summer time, my dad took me fishing for a few days, “up north”. I always loved doing that. We set out in our canoe, paddled across the frigid lake and drifted back with our rods dangling bait in the water, waiting for some unfortunate Walleye who would later end up in our bellies. I always used this opportunity to tell my Dad just what was on my mind. On these occasions I would really open up and we had these conversations, heart to heart. Those were very special moments. This was to be my last summer vacation after the Legion high-school, I was off to the novitiate and I was having some serious misgivings about my desire to carry on. I told my dad and he was sympathetic. I think he was always saddened to have his children leave his home. At such a young age, to see one’s children fly the nest must have been really tough. It would have been hard for any parent.
I confided to my dad that I didn’t want to go on to the novitiate. I wanted to leave the Legion and stay home with him and join the army, or go to school, or who knew what? I wanted something different, anything different, but, there was one big problem ... the souls entrusted to my care. Those souls ,whose final salvation rested on my sixteen year old shoulders. Those souls, whose damnation was certain if I didn’t remain a soldier of Christ, in the Legion. My own soul lost, if I didn’t carry on my studies for the priesthood, with the Legion of Christ. “Not all priests are as good as Legionaries”, I was told. And so I told my dad, that beautiful day on the lake, that I was going to the novitiate, I was going to be a priest.
When I reflect back on that day I am astounded how unjust I was with my father! The information I told him about the Legion was scant. What I withheld from him, was enormous. Had he known what I knew, he would not have permitted me to return to New Hampshire. Had he known about the mental and spiritual manipulation, he would have called the Bishop of Manchester and demanded that something be done to right the situation. I denied my father the opportunity to fulfill his divinely given mandate to defend his family, but I did so unwittingly. I had been “trained”, brainwashed, would be a better word, to distance myself from my family, to tell them nothing of my struggles, only my triumphs and happiness’s, which became fewer and fewer as the years wore on.
After I left the Legion it took me a long time to find my way. But, by the grace of God, I kept the faith, I met a girl, fell in love and got married. My habit of deception carried on though, I had not eradicated the Legion inspired method of concealment and falsehoods. I did not tell my bride about my past. I continued to defend the Legion against her enemies and calumniators. I thought I had successfully put the Legion behind me, until last year.
The news of Nuestro Fraud’s sins felt like a kick in the gut. I was astounded and in a state of denial but I gradually came to except what had happened and the consequences for all involved. I started to examine my conscience and judged the role I had to play as a former Legionary. I told my wife all about my past involvement with the Legion of Christ. I told the truth! Wow, how liberating, for a change! Since then my relationship with my wife has flourished, the truth has set us free. I used to complain about how the Legion had affected me, yet I would tell her about the good times I had had as well. It must have been confusing for her and so she finally asked me, “would you ever allow our kids to go to the Legion”? Without hesitation, I told her, “I would not allow a Legionary to even speak to my children about the Legion, or her works”.
If there is anyone out there who is reading this, who has a son in the Legion’s minor seminary, for the good of his mind and soul and the safety of your family, please look into the Legion very diligently. He may not be in any physical danger, the danger he is in is far greater. The Legion will affect his spirit and his personality and you will lose him! If he emerges from them he will return to you profoundly changed and you will not like what you see. Many, many, many men who leave the Legion also leave the faith. “By their fruits you shall know them”.

Grand Slam !!!

This from Deirdre Mundy over at, She hits the ball out of the park with this one.

Or look at St. Augustine. In the brashness of youth he mistook his mother’s simple piety for plain old stupidity. He had to run off, join a cult and lead a life of sin before he recognized the truth – and even then, it took the brilliance of St. Ambrose to bring him around.

Maciel understood this tendency – and that’s how he roped people in. He promised them a chance to do big things, when other adults just wanted their help with donut day. He promised they could be saints, cofounders, even. He asked huge amounts of time and money from them, and they gave, because for the young bigger is always better.

He gave them rallies. He gave them VOCATIONS. He made them feel special and needed. He made them an elite corps. He got them to engage in Apostolate! Look at us, we’re apostles! We’re saints in the making!

But he gave them nothing in exchange. He took their time, their money, their enthusiasm, and used them feed his own sinful desires. He was like a great gaping mouth, swallowing the good and repaying it with evil. He took their enthusiasm and turned it to his own ends with faulty theology and thought stopping phrases. (Lost Vocation, Sure Damnation! It rhymes, so it MUST be true.)

It takes a special gift to do that. Hitler had it. Stalin had it. Mao had it, and Maciel had it. The people who’ve been in RC since high school are like people recovering from the Cultural Revolution. They had enthusiasm and belief, but Maciel twisted them. And now, they have to take a step back and mourn their spent youth and idealism – otherwise, how can they go on?

Way to go Deirdre, I thought you hit the nail on the head with that post! Fortunately, I kept the faith, through the grace of God alone and that just barely. Many, many, many men who left the Legion also left the faith they too are victims of Maciel and his lieutenants, just in a different way.

Who said this?

"We've Had Enough Of Exhortations To Be Silent! Cry Out With A Hundred Thousand Tongues. I See That The World Is Rotten Because Of Silence."

No Kidding

Got this great idea for a post from the Catholic Caveman, It concerns the chief exorcist of Rome stating that the abuses of the clergy stem from the "smoke of satan", a phrase coined by the late pontiff Paul VI.
Father Gabriele Amorth, 85, who has been the Vatican's chief exorcist for 25 years and says he has dealt with 70,000 cases of demonic possession, said that the consequences of satanic infiltration included power struggles at the Vatican as well as "cardinals who do not believe in Jesus, and bishops who are linked to the Demon".
It is easy to see that many Bishops, through the sin of ommision, actually work against the church and the cause of Christ. As Dante Alighieri said in his, "Inferno", "The floors of hell are lined with the skulls of bishops".

Introduction to the Legion of Christ

The other day I was reading one of my favourite blogs. The article was about the Legion and one of the commentators was none other than Fr. James X, The legionary who recruited me to the Legion of Christ minor seminary in Center Harbour, New Hampshire. I immediately contacted him, to inquire about his health and what he had been up to as I had not seen him since that retreat many years ago in Northern Ontario. It seems that Fr. James is well. He has since left the Legion, due the the very reasons that have become so public by now. This bears mentioning as it made me reflect on how I met the Legion and what it was that actually attracted me to them. What was it about the Legion that convinced my loving and devoted parents to surrender their role as parents to this organisation?
To begin, I have to place everything in perspective. The nineties were a very difficult time for the church in Ontario. It seemed that there weren't any orthodox bishops or priests to be found anywhere. I think my parents were left feeling that it was all up to them to raise their family faithful to the Catholic church and her traditions. it must have seemed like a daunting and lonely task, much like the position I find myself in now.
My folks decide one Sunday that we are going on a retreat, run by that great "new order, beloved by the Pope", the Legionaries of Christ. Wow, what an impression they made! Imagine an order, faithful to the magisterium of the church, loyal to his Holiness, centered by a deep love for Christ in the Eucharist and grounded in a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother. These guys wore cassocks! No golf shirts and Bermuda shorts wearing priests here. Fr. James celebrated a most reverent mass, Br. Bartholomew X later lead a catechism lesson for the little ones, followed by rosary in front of the blessed sacrament exposed in the monstrance. I thought I had died and gone to heaven when they informed me that they had a minor seminary in the US. I was overjoyed at the thought of spending the school year with boys who thought just like I did. Boys who were raised to love the church as I was, best of all my folks were sold on the idea ... just like that.
The trouble began when I was dropped off for the summer program prior to the commencement of the school year. I would almost never be allowed to go home. I found out that we got four days off at Christmas and fifteen days off to go home for the summer and at Christmas we couldn't go home until the twenty-sixth of the month. I was thirteen years old and I was heartbroken. First day on the ground there in New Hampshire and the first of many heartbreaks had arrived in full force. I was so homesick I felt physically ill for the first four months or so. To make matters worse the fathers and brothers intercepted phone calls from my parents for the first two weeks, telling them not to call for awhile in order to let me settle in. They also opened all my mail before I got it in order to "safeguard my vocation". As if my "vocation" was so fragile that I wouldn't be able to handle a bit of bad news from home. My letters to my folks were also screened before being sent. I submitted a letter to my mom and dad and the brother returned it to me and chastised me for submitting it closed. He told me that there were no secrets here and that from now on I was to leave all my envelopes open in order for the priests and brothers to read them first. This was a crucial time for them to start indoctrinating me and the other boys that had arrived. We were told from the get go that our discernment process was over. God had led us to the Legion and it was safe to assume that was how he let us know that we all had vocations, all of us! We were told, in no uncertain terms that Christ had entrusted souls to our care. We were told that failure to remain in the Legion would result in the loss of those souls and certainly our own as well, was that something we could live with? Sadly for me, I bought this lie, hook, line and sinker. I bought it so well, I remained there for four years, as my mental and spiritual well being putrefied.
The years have passed, ten of them, since my departure from the Legion. At the time, when I "abandoned my vocation and the souls entrusted to my care", I no longer cared about whether or not I went to heaven. I knew that I was in hell already. I had never known what depression was until that first year of novitiate when I was sent to Ireland. When I left the Legion I was dropped off at a train station in Cornwall, Ontario. I had $200 in my pocket. I had no formal education or marketable skills. I did not know how to open a bank account or even shop for groceries. I was lumped, like a sack of sh*t, into the care of my parents who had economic troubles of their own. The Legion's final parting words to me were to be grateful for all that the Legion had done for me. Thanks very much guys!
Shortly after that I heard that the Legion was actually suing some former members who had the audacity to speak ill of her. They were also suing a young man who claimed that he had been sexually abused by Marcial Maciel. We now know that this man was telling the truth. I believe he is now curled up in a ball in bed, in the psych ward of some hospital, probably waiting for the authorities in the church to take him seriously. I wonder which Legionary his soul was entrusted to? I have decided that I will not remain silent out of fear of retribution any longer, from here on out only the truth about the Legion will come out of my mouth. Perhaps the Legion should give that a try!

The Father of Lies: And his chosen servants ...

Just a few paragraphs about Legionary lies, enjoy the rest at,

-The Legionary of Christ is trained to lie from the very onset of his vocation. There are no classes in lying taught immediately after Gregorian Chant class on Friday nights, because the approach is more subtle—given by example as well as by command. Within the Legion, a variety of subterfuges justify the lying, and amazingly, even many of those who have left the Legion years ago still engage in the practice. Along with the lies, many former members wish to advance the “Kingdom” by sending ReGAIN letters in support of the Legion, which are laced with profanity and obscenities. The ability to distinguish between what is appropriate and objective sin is obviously lost, as such letters usually end with a curiously contradictory “In Christ” or “I will pray for you.”

-Superiors often lie to their subjects regarding those brothers and priests who leave the Legion. “He was mentally ill” or “He was sent on a special secret mission for the pope by Nuestro Padre” are just a couple of the ridiculous examples we witnessed, used by worried superiors wanting to keep hold of the men under their watch. There must be a better way to protect the remaining vocations than to lie about the discernment process of exiting members.

-Parents are routinely lied to about the spiritual well-being of their sons, and by their own sons themselves. Legion rules dictate this. The religious may never reveal the true nature of his spiritual life to his parents. Parents are not only left out of vocational discernment, but are deceived as to its progress. A parent is often the last person to know when his or her son leaves the Legion, and that phone call is often to ask for money for the plane ticket home.

-Young men who are targeted for recruitment by the Legion of Christ have been told a whole series of lies regarding life in the Legion in order to hook them and reel them in. One of the most vicious of these lies concerns the promise of education. For decades, the Legion has promised young men that they will study for a civil career in the Legion. I was told that only twenty years ago. The Legion has never delivered on that promise. On the other hand, if a Legionary leaves under difficult circumstances, the congregation will occasionally “lose” critical transcripts, forcing the man to retake years of classes. Lies, in this case, go hand-in-hand with personal retribution.

Official Church decrees don't apply to the Legion do they?

My thoughts are italicised.

Official doctrine of Catholic Church

Decree on Priestly Training
Optatum Totius, #3
Vatican II Ecumenical Council
Rome, October 28, 1965

[Official text, complete and unabridged; bullets have been added to puntuate.]

• "In minor seminaries erected to develop the seeds of vocations, the students should be prepared by special religious formation, particularly through appropriate spiritual direction, to follow Christ the Redeemer with generosity of spirit and purity of heart.
• Under the fatherly direction of the superiors, and with the proper cooperation of the parents, (The Legion systematically cuts parents out of the lives of their children once the youngsters are in their care. In the minor seminaries the boys are allowed to go home for only twenty days a year, no Christmas, no Easter and no birthdays with your family) their daily routine should be in accord with the age, character and the stage of development of adolescence and fully adapted to the norms of a healthy psychology. ("If you leave the Legion you will go to hell and all the souls entrusted to your care will too, do you want that on your conscience"?)
• Nor should the fitting opportunity be lacking for social and cultural contacts and for contact with one’s own family. (Above mentioned cutoff from family and friends. Phone calls are restricted to once a week and letters from home are opened before the boy is allowed to read them, also, outgoing letters are screened before being sent to the parents to ensure the boy is not bashing the Legion to his parents)
• Moreover, whatever is decreed in the following paragraphs about major seminaries is also be to adapted to the minor seminary to the extent that it is in accord with its purpose and structure.
• Also, studies undertaken by the students should be so arranged that they can easily continue them elsewhere should they choose a different state of life. (Once a young man leaves the Legion he has no formal training and no formal education outside of high-school. He has no social skills after years of Legion indoctrination. He does not know how to apply for a job or a college, he doesn't know how to open a bank account or even shop for groceries. When I left the Legion I was deposited at the Cornwall, Ontario train station with $200 in my pocket and a few clothes and told not to bash the Legion out of gratitude for all the Legion had done for me ... yeah thanks guys!)
• With equal concern the seeds of vocations among adolescents and young men are also to be fostered in those special institutes, which in accord with the local circumstances, serve the purpose of a minor seminary as well as among those who are trained in other schools initiated for those with a belated vocation are to be carefully developed.”

Back again

Sorry gang! I have been away from my blog for a few days now. Reasons being: my wife and I have welcomed the arrival of a new baby boy, Michael, to our family, we just moved to a new house in a new town, which is a lot closer to my work and to top it all off I am taking two university courses to up-grade my education. The fun never stops at my house!
You may have noticed the new layout to my blog? A blogosphere pal of mine pointed out, that my blog, though pretty, was a little hard on the eyes. I was unaware that may have been the case for some people and wanting folks to actually read my blog, I decided to change it, to make it a little more visually appealing.
Life has been hectic for my family, both immediate and extended. We are all in need of a lot of prayers. First off, my folks, who immigrated to the United States for work a few years back, have lost their employment, due to the recent recession. Please keep them in your prayers as they search for the will of God in their lives. My brother, who is in the Legion of Christ right now, is in need of prayers too. This requires little elaboration. The recent scandals regarding the founder of the Legion are well known, as are the suspicions that members of the Legion hierarchy covered up Marcial Maciel’s transgressions. My brother is especially in need of prayers as the Legion superiors are keeping him and the other seminarians in the dark about the goings on surrounding the apostolic visitation. This disables them from being able to make an informed decision about whether or not to remain in the Legion. This is just one of many examples of how the Legion has operated like a cult for decades, victimizing young men and families all over the world, my family included, was torn apart, from the time my siblings and I were children. Finally, I ask your prayers for my immediate family. I have no specific intention, just thanksgiving for all the Lord has given us. I also ask Our Lord and Blessed Lady to ensure that all my descendants from now until the end of time be faithful Catholics, that they keep the faith founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ . God bless you all!

Ignattieff stumbles again

More on the Harper vs Ignattieff battle in regards to the abortion issue. This from the very secular National Post daily. In it we have the same old pro-abort nonsense about women going to back alley abortionists unless these murders of babies are state funded and standardized. This man wants to represent Canada on the international stage? No thanks Iggy!

Abortionist collects trophies from his victims

Warning: extremely gross, proceed only if you have a strong stomach.

I had no intention of doing any posts as my wife and I are moving to a new home in a new town with a newborn in tow, however, I just couldn't let this one pass without pointing it out to my fellow Catholics.

Note that the investigation was launched due to a woman being killed during a "botched" procedure. Kind of nullifies the pro-choice arguement that if abortion is not legally available that women will go to back alley abortionists where there lives will be in danger. I wonder if Planned Parenthood actually notifies women on the table that the procedure is medically risky?I doubt it, bad for business. Excuse me while I go vomit!

Mr. Harper stands strong for children in the womb

The following article is from Life Site news, and concerns Prime Minister Harper standing strong against opposition leader Michael Ignattieff concerning international abortion funding. Mr. Harper has decided that as Canada is hostng the G-8 summmit this year that he will set the agenda for helping women and children in developing countries. Mr. Ignattieff stated that any health care initiatives should include access to reproductive "health" measures. Mr. Harper has rejected his oppostion's call for abortion funding abroad and instead will focus on clean water, innoculations and better nutrition as well as training of health care workers. This article also pointed out that since Mr. Harper has become Prime Minister of Canada that funding for the Canadian branch of planned parenthood, the Canadian Federation for Sexual Health has fallen from nearly 1.3 million dollars a year to just over 9 thousand dollars a year. Mr. Harper is a far from perfect national leader but he is the best we have had in a long time. Perhaps this is why God has blessed Canada so much lately.

Pity, I dare say ...

"But this is terrible!" cried Frodo. "Far worse than the worst that I imagined from your hints and warnings. O Gandalf, best of friends, what am I to do? For now I am really afraid. What am I to do? What a pity that Bilbo did not stab that vile creature, when he had the chance!"

"Pity, it was Pity that stayed his hand. Pity, and Mercy: not to strike without need. And he has been well rewarded, Frodo. Be sure that he took so little hurt from the evil, and escaped in the end, because he began his ownership of the Ring so. With Pity."

"I am sorry," said Frodo. "But I am frightened; and I do not feel any pity for Gollum."

"You have not seen him," Gandalf broke in.

"No, and I do not want to... Do you mean to say that you have let him live on after all those horrible deeds? He deserves death!"

"Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death and judgment. For even the wise cannot see all ends. I have not much hope that Gollum can be cured before he dies, but there is a chance of it." ...

"All the same," said Frodo, "even if Bilbo could not kill Gollum, I wish he had not kept the Ring. I wish he had never found it, and that I had not got it! Why did you let me keep it? Why didn't you make me throw it away, or, or destroy it?

"Let you? Make you?" said the wizard. Haven't you been listening to all that I have said? You are not thinking of what you are saying." For former members of the Legion and those who are just curious.

More to follow on MM and the LC

Alright folks, I have been posting some pretty sensational stuff on Marcial Maciel and the order he founded, which I was a member of for four years. Believe what you want to but the stuff that has come out since his children's lawyers filed suit against the congregation is just out of this world. We now know that he had six children. He had five separate identities used in four different countries. He had established a Bahamian trust fund for his illegitimate children. His worldly assets totalled $20, 500, 000 in property and cash while his seminarians ate expired, rancid food. This information has been corroborated by Fr. Alfredo Torres one of the first Legionary co-founders who was present at MM's death as well as the current General Director, Fr. Alvaro Corcuera, Fr. Luis Garza and Maciel's principle mistress as well as his eldest daughter. All were present at the founders death. There was also an exorcist present as it was assumed Marcial Maciel had been overcome by the devil because of his abuse of the sacraments in order to pursue his carnal past times. In death he refused the annointing of the sick, confesson and communion. I will continue to search for more information on the Legion and her founder especially considering recent information that has come to light on the second anniversary of his death. What will happen to the Legion remains to be seen. She still has many good and holy members who had nothing to do with any of this, my brother included. The Holy Father is expected to render a verdict in March, we must pray for the Wisdom of Solomon for him and that the best may be done for Holy Mother Church and all those who have suffered at the hands of this many headed beast, Marcial Maciel. We must pray for all members of the legion whose only wish is to serve the church and souls.
Thy will be done!

This just in ...

Legionaries summon exorcist to Marcial Maciel as he lay dying. Read for yourself ...

Why? It seems that for the previous two years, the founder had lost the faith. He did not go to mass, did not pray... The Legionaries who took care of him came to know that he felt "repulsed by religion". And aversion to religious objects is an unequivocal sign of possession. In fact, they say that from as early as 1946, the first Legionaries witnessed rare phenomena of the mephistophelian type. The father had at that time "a room in the house of the Sacred Heart", un chalet con a statue of this devotion. A "strange room". First, it had no bed. "Maciel slept in a coffin". Second, it was strange due to the odd phenomena that occurred there. One night, his companions heard strange noise in Maciel's room and, upon entering, they were met with "balls of fire which circled the founder's room and then the fire vanished".

Others attest that, one day in the sacristy, fierce dogs appeared. Maciel ordered the young men that were with him to leave the room and, the same way that the dogs appeared, "the dogs disappeared from the room whose door was closed". Another time, he was in the chapel. Upon hearing a noise, the Legionaries "opened the door and found the pews thrown about and Maciel under one of them". Presence of the Evil One?

When I was a Legionary novice in Dublin, Ireland we heard rumour of alleged attacks by the evil one himself against "Nuestro Padre", I dismissed these rumours out of hand. One day I was tasked by my superior to clean out the room designated to the founder on his visits, I was creeped out as f*ck, scared sh*tless. I don't scare easy, I have been to war after all and blown up twice but that day back in 1999 I was scared to death by that room in the Legionary novitiate in Dublin.

Read Marcial Maciel`s writing at your own peril

He asked me if I thought it possible to save the writings of Fr. Maciel. Many of them, he said, contain instruction and reflections that are, in and of themselves, good and useful. Many are simply his expression of elements of spirituality and religious life common to the universal Church. Why not keep what is good in his writings even if we must disown and distance ourselves from his person?

Why throw out the baby with the bathwater?

I answered with two analogies.

Adolph Hitler was a painter. Paintings of his have survived and even been auctioned off to collectors and historians in recent times. He painted landscapes. He painted the Blessed Virgin with the Christ Child. He fancied himself quite the accomplished artist.

Hitler is not remembered for his art. He is forever engraved upon the collective memory of humankind as arguably the least human, most deranged and criminal mass murderer of modern times. That is who he was.

To say, ‘let’s forget who he was and hang his paintings in the rectory’ would be disingenuous, offensive and repugnant to even the most lenient of critics.

One cannot separate the art from the artist. BECAUSE OF WHO HE WAS, Hitler’s Madonna and Child becomes a particularly blasphemous mockery of the Virgin, Christ and all the sacred artwork that has tried to represent the Holy Mother and her Son throughout time.

Analogy number two: in the Gospel narration of the temptations of Jesus, Satan quotes Sacred Scripture in the hopes of inducing the Savior to sin.

By itself, Scripture is a holy and valuable guide. On the lips of the Adversary it becomes a singularly vile and devious hex, a sacrilegious manipulation that reeks of evil and desperation.

Fr. Maciel was neither Satan nor Hitler and analogies take us only so far.

But while Fr. Maciel masqueraded as the saintly founder, the admirable priest, apostle and ‘suffering servant of Yahweh’ that all the LCs sought to emulate in their own vocation, his writings were veritable treasures that we meditated and quoted, memorized and preached.

Once we found out who he truly was, those same writings have turned into the cruelest of jokes, a most unholy parody of true spirituality and religious tradition, a sacrilegious satire that should make us all ashamed of having once proudly called ourselves ‘co-founders’.

The bathwater dissolved whatever baby there was long, long ago.
So throw it out with no regrets.

Early feminists were pro-life

Ashley Herzog writing for Proud to be Canadian,

Rewriting History on Abortion

Yesterday marked the opening of the Susan B. Anthony museum in Rochester, New York—and instead of celebrating, a lot of feminists are miffed. The museum was purchased by a member of Feminists Choosing Life of New York, and pro-choice groups are accusing her of “hijacking Susan.”

Apparently, they want the famous suffragist’s views on abortion scrubbed from the historical record.

“There’s absolutely nothing in anything that [Susan B. Anthony] ever said or did that would indicate she was anti-abortion,” Planned Parenthood founder Gloria Feldt.

Absolutely nothing? A quick Google search disproves that in a hurry. In her suffragist newspaper The Revolution, Anthony wrote that “no matter what the motive, love of ease, or a desire to save from suffering the unborn innocent, the woman is awfully guilty who commits the deed. It will burden her conscience in life, it will burden her soul in death; but oh! thrice guilty is he who, for selfish gratification…drove her to the desperation which impelled her to the crime.”

Anthony wasn’t the only early feminist to oppose abortion. Her views were shared by women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the feminist behind the historic Seneca Falls Convention and mother of seven children. (If Stanton applied for a teaching position in a women’s studies department today, she would probably be labeled a “Jesus freak” and promptly dismissed.)

“When we consider that women are treated as property, it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit,” Stanton wrote to her friend Julia Ward Howe in 1873.

Victoria Woodhull, the first female stockbroker on Wall Street, also became the first woman to run for President in 1870. An early suffragette with a flair for the outrageous, Woodhull personified the modern feminist slogan “well-behaved women rarely make history.” (She was repeatedly arrested and jailed for her political activities.) And she, too, opposed abortion.

“A human life is a human life and equally to be held sacred whether it be a day or a century old,” Woodhull wrote. “Wives…to prevent becoming mothers…deliberately murder [children] while yet in their wombs. Can there be a more demoralized condition than this? ”

Alice Paul, who authored the original Equal Rights Amendment, was willing to face arrests, harassment and physical assaults in order to win the right to vote. Later, when 1960s feminists began advocating the repeal of abortion laws, Paul asked, “How can one protect and help women by killing them as babies?” She considered abortion “the ultimate exploitation of women.”

It’s one thing for pro-choice feminists to admit they disagree with the early feminists’ position on abortion. It’s quite another to suppress the truth and stuff words in the suffragists’ mouths—words clearly contradicted by their own writings.

Some pro-choicers’ denialism is borderline comical. After the opening of the Susan B. Anthony museum, an opposition group launched a Web site dedicated to refuting Anthony’s anti-abortion stance.

“Feminists Choosing Life of New York, Feminists for Life of America, and Susan B Anthony’s List are engaging in a incessant campaign to align Susan B Anthony with their anti-choice cause and imply that Susan B Anthony was pro-life,” the site says. “One of the primary goals of is to provide accurate historical interpretation and context regarding Susan B Anthony’s written and verbal statements regarding the abortion issue.”

However, the site doesn’t provide a single source citing Anthony’s written and verbal statements. The “resources” section of the site is blank.

As my old boss used to say, “if you don’t like what the facts say about your ideology, you might want to rethink your ideology.”

As for who is “hijacking Susan” and rewriting history, pro-choice feminists might want to look in the mirror.

Canadian "Human Rights Commissions"

Here is the opening statement from Ezra Levant's trial before the Canadian Human Rights Commission. Mr. Levant's crime? Mr. Levant had the audacity to publish the Danish Mohammed cartoons in his now defunct, Western Standard magazine. The Canadian constitution guarantees the rights of Canadians to, "life, liberty and security of the person", not the right of muslims to not be offended! Here we have muslims, hauling an innocent man before the illegitimate "human rights" tribunal, for excercising his constitutionally guaranteed rights. Please Mr. Harper abolish these violations of Charter rights!

The war against boys in education part 2

Here is the article in Maclean's magazine by Julia McKinnel. In it she clearly explains why boys are falling so far behind in the public education system.

Hamoyoun recommends daily two-hour study periods with five-minute breaks from 4:30 to 7 p.m., and at the dining room table, not his bedroom.

If any parent had to dedicate two hours plus to their childrens studyafter school because of the hyper feminisation of schools why would they bother sending them to school anyway? What is the point if you end up doing the work of the teacher at your home anyway? I attended Catholic grade schools and my understanding is that not much has changed since then. A lot of "learning" about self-esteem, the environment and how to roll a condom onto a banana and not a lot of reading, writing or arithmatic. A lot of liberal brainwashing about how white males and the Catholic church are at the root of all the worlds problems. A lot of really anti-catholic nonsense about the validity of homosexual feelings and how abstinence was good but "you probablly won't want to give it a try so use these if you must". Anyhow here is the link to the full article at Maclean's magazine.

The war against boys in education

The following is an article from Proud to be Canadian, Rebecca Hagelin outlines the very war feminists are enacting on our sons. I will follow this post up with another from Maclean's magazine where the secular media acknowledges that boys are falling behind in school due to the hyper feminisation of public schools across North America. It isn't yet available on the on-line version of the magazine.

Marcial Maciel was a drug addict too

Before anyone considers joining or supporting the Legion or Regnum Christi make sure to do lots of due diligence. The members of the groups founded by "Our Father" idolized him excessively, were bound by secret vows, extreme rules and isolation, elite attitude, extreme control to the point of extracting free will, manipulation and deception. A bad tree does not bear good fruit.

More news comes to light about the founder of the Legionaries of Christ.

Who said this?

"Believing Christians should look upon themselves as such a creative minority and ... espouse once again the best of its heritage, thereby being at the service of humankind at large." --Joseph Ratzinger

Part time theologian, full time Cretin

More on the Rep. Patrick Kennedy vs. Bishop Thomas Tobin battle. Many thanks to Dymphna's Road, , she sent me to this neat blog called the Creative minority report, . In the not too distant past I awarded Bishop Thomas Tobin my own, "True Defender of the True Faith", award. I think the bishops of the world could learn something from this spiritual giant, that the gates of hell shall not prevail against Holy Mother Church, and that to align yourself against her is pure madness. Take notes Rodger "Dodger" Cardinal Mahoney and you too Bishop Weakland (sodomite). This is how bishops of the true church behave.
